So, today is results day!
Anyone remember how this day went exactly a year ago?
Anyone else think its mad it was a year ago already?
Now everyone says today is the first day of the rest of your life… but to be honest, it’s really not.
If you got the grades you need to get into university then congratulations!
If you didn’t do as well then who cares, it’s really not the end of the world.
In this day and age, you really don’t need amazing grades to get a good job, you don’t even need to go to university and this year has proved just that.
With some careers you do need a degree to get your foot in the door, don’t get me wrong. But a lot of the time you will find there is probably a better option out there.
The majority of my friends decided not to go to university last year and look at them now- one of them is working at a law firm in London, another has an apprenticeship at an accounts company, my ex is an estate agent for the UK’s largest estate agency group and another is a showbiz reporter in the city.
All of them got into university but decided not to go and they don’t regret it one bit.
Even if you didn’t get the grades you needed don’t worry- Lord Alan Sugar left school at 16 without any A Levels and look at him now. It’s the same for Richard Branson.
Personally I don’t regret not going to uni at all. There is no way I would be where I am now if I had gone to university- I’m a qualified journalist, I’ve got work experience at six major publications, I’m not in debt and now I’m branching out and have landed myself a marketing job at Amara.
A year ago today I did not for one second think this is where I would be a year down the line.
Congratulations to everyone who got the results they wanted today… where will you be a year later?
